of Staten Island, Inc.

Individual courses are $65.00 and $70.00. For
members of the JCC the course fee is
$50.00 and $55.00. JCC membership is an annual fee of $75.00 for Seniors
and members will get a $15.00 credit toward any class. All fee's
are collected on registration day.
Registration information for courses is available at the JCC office and is publicized in the
SeniorNet Newsletter and the local newspapers.
Scholarships
are forms of aid that help students pay for their education. Generally,
scholarships are reserved for students who demonstrate a financial need.
Scholarships are fully confidential and not disclosed to other members
of the class. Unlike loans, they do not have to be repaid. Please call

Beatrice Victor of the JCC SeniorNet to apply for a scholarship.
Depending on the availability of instructors and the number of seniors interested in a course,
these courses are given every quarter.
You do not need to own a computer to take the courses.

Introduction to Computers I
No computer experience is required to take this course. Beginners should take
this introductory course before taking advanced courses.
The course is eight weeks long with one session per week.
Students will survey the uses of a computer through the program Microsoft Works for Windows.
They will become familiar with using the mouse and learn basic skills in Word Processing, Database, Spreadsheet.
Students will learn how to go Online and be introduced to the World Wide Web
and how to use Web E-Mail.

Intro II
Take the next step up. Students will utilize
basic knowledge of Windows for practical purposes, combining Word Processing,
Database, Spreadsheet and new skills, Basic Desktop Publishing, Mail Merge and
Task Launcher and File Management to aid the student in becoming more
comfortable with the computer.

Word Processing
Students must have taken Intro 1 or have basic computer skills
before taking this course. Using MS Word and MS Works, the emphasis is on understanding the concept of
word processing, rather than the specifics of a particular word processing program. Students will
develop skills to create letters, reports, resumes, greeting cards and
newsletters. They will learn how to open a document, type a letter, cut
and paste text, edit, spell check and print. Lessons will include the use of bold, underline, fonts, page layout,
formatting, margins, copying and saving files.
Advanced features such as drawing, graphics and columns will be taught if time permits.

Adobe Photoshop Elements
- Beginner
Requirements for this basic photo
course are hands-on experience with a computer. This course teaches the
students digital photography by using step-by-step tutorials on how to
use most of the tools and menu commands found in the Photoshop Elements
program. The entire curriculum takes about 20 hours to complete most of
the tutorials. You will learn how to use text in different ways in a
photograph; learn how to make a Farmer’s Market Poster; Postcards; using
filters and painting tools; Inserts for a CD Jewel Case; create a
panorama; restoring and retouching photos; correcting red eye and so
on.

Photo Shop -
Advanced
Beginners
Requirements for this course is a
must have hands-on experience with a computer. This course consists of
a field trip with your digital camera and importing your digital photos
from your camera into the computer for analyzing your photos. By using
Adobe Photoshop Elements program you will learn how to correct the
photos that you have taken. Also the use of a scanner to copy your old
transparencies and negatives; using filters to enhance your photos, and
many more enhancements to make you a better picture-taker.

Use of a Digital Camera
- Advanced (New course)
Requirements for this course is a
must have hands-on experience with a computer. This course consists of
the operation of using a digital camera, a field trip with the camera
and importing your digital photos from your camera into the computer for
analyzing your photos. By using Adobe Photoshop Elements program you
will learn how to correct the photos that you have taken. Also the use
of a scanner to copy your old transparencies and negatives; using
filters to enhance your photos, and many more enhancements to make you a
better picture-taker.

Understanding Windows
Students must complete Into 1 and Intro 2
as a prerequisite to this course. This course will teach you how
to manage your computer with a deeper understanding and appreciation of
the Windows Operating System and it's potential. Students will
broaden their basic skills managing disks, files and
folders, changing Windows settings, exploring the Control Panel, computer
maintenance, using backup, restore and much more.
Our computers use the Windows XP Professional Operating System but these basic
concepts will apply across all Microsoft Windows Operating Systems.

Internet for Advanced Beginners
Both the novice and the veteran are invited to
take this class and become a skilled Net surfer. There are several ways in which
learning how to use the Internet will enrich and expand your life. A few of the
most convincing reasons include:
You can find out about your favorite
hobbies and passions, however unique they might be, and discover
that there are other people out there who share your interest. You
can also research medical conditions and help yourself become better
prepared for visits with your doctor. You can investigate items you
want to purchase, find out what other consumers have to say about
them, and comparison shop. You can find maps and directions to
every conceivable location, movie times and theaters,
up-to-the-minute weather information, world news, sports scores and
much, much more. Being able to use the computer and navigating the
Internet can expand your world of information resources
tremendously.
Keeping in touch with friends and family through e-mail can help
enrich your social connections. You will be able to hear and see
what your children, grandchildren and good friends are up to on a
daily basis without the expense of a large phone bill.
Additionally, you can communicate take care of other personal
responsibilities via e-mail. You can resolve a billing question
with your cable company, find out about services at a local
volunteer organization, track down old classmates, or request
information from an organization.

Students will utilize basic knowledge of
Windows for practical purposes of combining your Windows
knowledge with Quicken® Deluxe. This is one of the
easiest ways to manage your finances! Quicken can help you
track your spending and savings easily, optimize your investments,
prepare for taxes, and plan for your future.

Excel
Excel is an excellent
spreadsheet program that allows a user to update information easily and
test scenarios that may otherwise take hours to complete. Once you
begin to understand the basics you will find it is an easy application
to learn and can be fun to use. This course begins with a basic
overview of the application and quickly advances to cover useful
formulas, functions, techniques for enhancing spreadsheets including
charts, and much more.
